Brooke Hasch (HASH) has more from the State Capitol.
The Missouri House gave preliminary approval to a plan that eliminates gas taxes for the entire summer.
Gas payers would have to apply for the tax return while also keeping their receipts over a three month period to prove their gas expenditures.
Saint Louis County Democratic Representative Patricia Yaeger says this will not be an effective incentive for Missouri drivers.

| Description: I know this sounds like we're helping the people and I believe it will, but unfortunately I don't know how many people are going to be disciplined enough to hang onto their receipts for three months. |
If passed, the gas reimbursement period would take place from May 24 until September 2.
But with a couple of weeks left in the legislative session the measure faces a long hall to ever get to the governor's desk.
