Shortly after the U.S. Supreme Courts upheld Kentucky's use of lethal injection

Intro: Governor Blunt calls on Missouri courts to issue execution dates for pending death penalty cases shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld lethal injections in the state of Kentucky.

Jessica Miller has more from Jefferson City.

Missouri's three part injection procedure is similar to that of Kentucky's and has come under scrutiny within the past three years.

Supporter of the death penalty, Republican Senator Matt Bartle says there hasn't been set execution dates because of national hold ups.

Description: You have these national challenges by those that oppose the death penalty and from time to time they get an issue to the United States supreme court.And as that is pending before the Supreme Court it can have kind of a breaking effect all over the country.


The hold up in recent years may not have been entirely due to opposition of the death penalty, but instead to the controversy surrounding the execution of one inmate who may have endured excrutiating pain while taking an unusually long time to die.
