St. Louis Senator Skeptical of City Development Plan

Intro: The Missouri Senate's top Democrat says she is concerned about a proposed tax break for land development in St. Louis City.

Carly Robertson has more from the State Capitol.

 

The Governor's Economic Development Bill will go to the Senate Floor Wednesday for debate.

The Senate's economic development committee heard testimony regarding a provision in the bill that would offer tax breaks to a developer who purchased dozens of acres in the City. 

Senate Democratic Leader Maida Coleman says she is skeptical about the lack of public information regarding plans for the area.

Description: "The neighborhood associations, the housing associations, want to be a part and have some input.  So that's part of a concern, that there does not seem to be a plan yet, with this huge accumulation of land."
 
Coleman also says that behind the scenes negotiations are ongoing, and that Democrats will strongly oppose elements of the bill.

Proponents of the plan say that the provision would be the best thing to happen to St. Louis in the past 30 years.
