Poachers beware! A new bill would increase punishment for illegal hunting.
Amy Becker has more from the State  Capitol.
The Senate Agriculture Committee met today to hear Senate Bill 665. It would increass the penalties for poaching. Senator Kevin Engler is the sponsor of the bill.

Contents:  They're very receptive to doing something that would cause a bit more of a fine and possible loss of hunting license if you're poaching on somebody's property.
The bill would increase the penalty for any individual who illegally hunts while trespassing on private property. That penalty includes a $500 fine in addition to restitution for any property damage.

Contents:  The fact that some people poach on their own land is one thing, when they come on to somebody else's property and do damage and take game off your property, it should be a separate offense.

If passed, people who violate the bill would face a fine of $500 and possible suspension or of their hunting license.

A Missouri senator says poaching hurts both animals--and property. Amy Becker has more on a bill to change that from the State capitol.
Senator Kevin Engler,is the sponsor of a bill that would increase the penalties for poaching.  Engler says poaching comes at great cost to landowners.

Contents:   The game is very expensive.  Many people sell hunting privileges to game farms and it's very expensive, two or three thousand dollars for a hunt.
Those found in violation of the bill would have to pay a fine and could have their hunting license revoked.
