More than one-hundred seventy thousand cars travel Highway 40 everyday in St. Louis.
But that may change if Modot's plan goes through to shut down parts of Highway 40 from Spoede Road to Sarah Street.
Lt. Governor Peter Kinder wrote letters to MoDot Director Pete Rahn and the Missouri Highway Commission in protest of the closing.
Kinder suggests a different option that would maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction and limit other closures to late nights and weekends.
