Missouri legislators are cracking down on illegal immigrants and those who hire them.
KMOX's Hillari Duthoo has that story from Jefferson City.
Missouri legislators are indicating they want to see those who employ illegal immigrants penalized.
A portion of the bill perfected in the Senate Monday states that Missouri Highway Patrol officers would be the ones policing employers.
Concerns have raised about how to pay for such an actionand whether the state is stretching the Highway Patrol too thin.
Governor Blunt stated that before anything is signed, he wants to take a closer look at the fine points of the bill.
"Anybody that knowningly hires an illegal immigrant should be punished. And I think that's what we need to combat. That's what the legislation is designed to do and I want to look into the specifics a little more before I committ to signing it."
A senate vote is needed to pass the bill to the House for further debate.
