As flags flew at half-staff Monday to honor a Missouri Department of Transportation employee killed on the job last Friday a group of MoDot employees gather in the capitol to show their support of a bill that penalizes drivers who disobey traffic laws in safety zones.
Fines would double for drivers convicted of a violation in a designated travel safety zone under a bill sponsored by St. Louis County Representative St. Onge. Brian Atnep a member of MoDot's Employees Association says the bill is good for public awareness.
Since 1987 34 MoDot employees have died on the job and half of them were killed by passing vehicles.
