A powerful Republican senator says the way to fund education is through increased court fees. Matt Johnson has the story from the state Capital.
The plan would generate 2.5 million dollars to fund the state's Education Formula by making it more expensive to file a lawsuit.
Republican senator Matt Bartle says the fees would not affect Missourians.
"99.5 percent of our citizens by my very antecdotal estimations will not feel any impact at all."
The bill would also make it more expensive to get public records. Opponents say the bill will raise their cost of doing business in Missouri.

Filing a lawsuit or finding public records would cost more under a plan being pushed by a key republican lawmaker. Matt Johnson is at the state capital.
Republican senator Matt Bartle says the fees would generate 2.5 million dollars for education.
The individual fees aren't large, but Jim Durham says they would add up quickly for people like him in the real estate businees.
"If I have to pay five bucks every time that just adds to my costs and the costs of my clients."
Bartle's plan would also increase the cost of filing a lawsuit in the state.
