Blunt pitches tax cuts to create jobs

While Missouri Gov. Bob Holden has proposed several new taxes, his Republican competitor, Matt Blunt, says he wants to abolish a Missouri business tax. Cliff Judy has the story from Jefferson City. Story:

Secretary of State Matt Blunt told a group of Jefferson City business owners that cutting taxes will create jobs in Missouri.

Blunt says he plans to make moves to help small businesses.

Contents: Blunt says, "Well, one of the taxes I called for the elimination of was the franchise tax, which I think is onerous and outdated and is something that keeps us from being as competitive as we should be with other states."

While Governor Bob Holden has proposed several new taxes, his competitor, Matt Blunt, told a group of Jefferson City business owners he wanted to repeal the Missouri franchise tax on businesses.

One of Holden's campaign spokespersons, Caleb Weaver, says Blunt's comments aren't surprising.
