Welfare Benefit Extension Proposed

Missouri welfare recipients may receive an extra year of state funding under a proposed bill in the Senate. Naomi Smith has more from Jefferson City.

Federal law gives welfare recipients up to five years of benefits if they are working or are enrolled in job training programs.

But Missouri welfare recipients get only four years.

A proposed bill in the Senate would add one year to Missouri's welfare time limit to match the federal limit.

Bill sponsor Mexico Senator Joe Maxwell says this would be more cost effective for Missouri.
