Bill Limits Cities From Providing Telephone Services

The House gave first round approval to a bill preventing cities from providing telephone services.

The measure prevents cities from providing telephone services.

Opposition came from those who said cities are capable of offering such services.

Supporters said the bill is designed to prevent cities from spending taxpayers' dollars on upgrading services to compete with private businesses.

Bill sponsor Carol Mays from Independance said cities cannot become businesses.
