Under current law, once handicapped people are issued a special parking tag, they keep it for life.
A bill passed in the House is now being considered by a Senate committee that would require the tags to be renewed each year with doctor verification.
House Representative, Bill Luetkenhaus, says he wants tougher laws to stop people from abusing special parking privilages.
The bill also contains a measure that would increase the fine to $300 for illegal use of a handicapped space.
