Chemical Castration Approved

State Capital Bureau Missouri's House lawmakers voted overwhelmingly yes on a Chemical Castration ammendment for sexual offenders.

Under the proposal, a repeat sex offender could be required to receive the female hormone injection, Depro-Provera, to decrease their sex drive as consideration for parole.

Fellow Republican, Kirkwood Representative Mike Gibbons supported Chemical Castration.

Contents: As far as my wife and kids are concerned, I would feel safer if I knew as a part of their parole they would get this type of thing so they would not commit this type of crime again.

The bill with the Chemical Castration requirement was passed by the House and returned to the Senate for a final review of the idea.

Repeat sex offenders could be forced to take drugs to reduce their sex drive under a measure approved by the Missouri House.

The measure would allow a convicted sexual offender to agree to undergo a chemically induced sex-drive reduction by receiving routine shots of the female hormone Depro-Provera.

Kirkwood Rep. Michael Gibbons was among the lawmakers who voted in support of the idea.

Contents: The offenders could agree to the treatment if they want parole. It is our hope that in getting the treatment the person would not committ the crime ever again.

Sexual offenders who agree to the female hormone as a parole condition would be required to receive the shots for life.
