Pay Hike Rejected

Missouri's House Rules committee has voted to rejected a proposed pay increase for state lawmakers. Phill Brooks reports from Jefferson City the issue now goes to the full House on Thursday:

The pay hike was recommended by a citizens commission. It's recommendations automatically will take effect unless voted down by both chambers of the legislature.

The commission's chairman said his group had concluded lawmakers deserved more money in part because being a legislator is a full-time job:

But those salary hike recommendations have met stiff opposition in the legislature.

Many lawmakers say, politically, they just cannot accept a pay increase of some 8-thousand dollars a year.
