Bill Sponsor Does Not Want Higher Speeds

You won't be able to drive faster on the way to work if Senator Danny Staples has his way. Brian Higgins has the story from Jefferson City.

Staples' opposition to a proposed amendment could destroy the entire speed limit bill. The amendment would raise the limit on urban interstates to 65 miles per hour. Staples says he wants to retain the current limit of 55 miles per hour.

Contents: "I hope that amendment is defeated because I will have nothing to do with a speed limit that we can't live with; I will have nothing to do with a speed limit that we can die with."

Staples says that an increase in the speed limit on urban interstates would result in more deadly accidents.
